About Our Railway
Opening in 2025, the Severn Beach Miniature Railway is set to bring back a slice of history while creating an exciting new attraction for families, railway enthusiasts, and visitors of all ages. Decades ago, Severn Beach was home to a beloved miniature railway that delighted generations of locals and visitors alike. While that railway is no longer in operation, we are thrilled to rekindle its spirit and create a modern experience that honors its legacy.
Nestled in the picturesque coastal village of Severn Beach, this new railway will offer scenic train rides, family-friendly play areas, and plenty of opportunities to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Our mission is to create a unique destination that combines nostalgia, education, and fun while celebrating the charm of miniature railways.
Whether you’re a local eager to reconnect with a cherished past or a traveler excited to explore something new, the Severn Beach Miniature Railway promises to be a must-visit destination. Stay tuned for updates as we bring this dream to life and let the magic of miniature railways live on!

Monday was a very busy day as King lifting around a 60 ton crane to move the container into place. Thus will eventually bevthe engine and carriage shed. For now it gives us a secure place to keep all the materials. Kevin England is working on a security system and signage for obvious reasons. Thankyou to King's staff for their proffesionalism on the day and our team too. Here a video my wife made of the events. ... See MoreSee Less
A short video capturing the events of the day thanks to my wife. The reclaimed railway sleepers are to be used in the building of station platforms, planters and other ornamental features on the new line. It's great to see some of our volunteers who have never been involved in anything like this before behave like proffesionals. ... See MoreSee Less
All these track panels have been built by our volunteers who only a few months ago had never done anything like this before! Well done to them. ... See MoreSee Less

Although the weather has made the task of site work difficult much has been going on at our workshops. Today was a very productive day, Mark and his son , Elliott worked very efficiently building track panels. I was working with Dan, David and Pete preparing the locomotive for its 10 years boiler examination. Pete Hawkins of Hawkins inspections have carried out all our boiler work for years. Here he is checking the boiler plate thicknesses . After the boiler is plugged up then filled with water to the top. A hydraulic force pump is used to take the pressure to 175 PSI. This is maintained for a given period to check the boiler shell structure for any defects such as leaks or distortion. The boiler passed with flying colours! The locomotive will be reassembled then Pete will return to conduct a steam test. ... See MoreSee Less

Talking about the new miniature railway for Severn BeachSadly due to the change of weather we're now getting we have to suspend ground works on site. The promenade gardens are made op mostly of clay and once this gets wet everything gets bogged down. We don't want to damage the grass as public use this space daily so we need a few days of dry weather. We expected this so when the ground dries up a bit it's all hands on deck! At our Caldicot workshops there's plenty to do and the volunteers have been busy drilling the latest batch of sleepers. These are nearly completed so track panel assembly next week , our new locomotive has its 10 boiler examination soon and the inspector requires all the lagging and steam fittings removed, the steam dome cover also as he needs to see inside. Dan and his guys have now done this in readiness. We will now give the chassis a good clean and install an air brake system at the same time. No doubt Mrs N will make a film of the test I can post. ... See MoreSee Less

SEVERN BEACH MINIATURE RAILWAY UPDATES. A big thankyou to all who helped today . We've now completed the ornamental picket wood fencing near the cutting. We will eventually plant this area with a range of small shrubs and flowers. Thankyou to my Wife Gosia and my granddaughter Sophie for bring meals and hot tea. A big thankyou to Mark who is one of the highly active volunteers who worked with me all day on the picket fence, his wife Sylvia constantly popping across offering help and support. Thanks also to Alistair Pook for his two guys, Jordan and his young assistant who are
Installing all the lineside fencing.
Tomorrow we will be on site again and hope to complete the post and wire fencing up to the tea cottage work site. Many walkers and residents came over to express their delight and support for this project and can't wait to ride the first trains at Easter . Just to let everyone know the fencing is around 1 metre of 3 feet in English money so will not be really visible as same height as existing bund wall.
